On the Grill

so we were out of power last week and i cooked banana bread on the grill!! so cool! i posted the recipe on our new ward recipe blog: http://www.sharingislove.blogspot.com/. our grill has a temp gauge on the lid so i thought "why not". it stayed at a constant 350. and yes it tasted truly amazing; the top had this perfect crisp texture and it didn't taste "smoked". HA
although....
the bottom and sides turn a nice black. it was very easy to separate what burned and it still tasted great. next time i'll heat up the grill leave one burner on high and turn the other two off. that way there will be no direct heat on it. it would be a great skill to learn the temp of fire to be able to cook on it. the pioneer ladies would measure by how close they could hold their hand to the flame and for how long. oh, how did they do family life on the plains. could we really survive. part of me really enjoyed having no electricity last week. saving money on no lights, being creative with what we have for food, no wasting time with tv and computer, i forgot out money (because i track it all on my computer)...that didn't last long because bri hooked the house up to our generator. so the fridge never became an issue. but along with keeping the fridge on bri hooked up the tv. ugh. Bonnie parkin had made the joke that TV was satan's home teacher. heehee love it!

I totally agree! As major an inconvience as power outages are, it is fun. I remember when we lived in Connecticut, a blizzard came through and knocked the power out for several days (the fridge wasn't an issue). It was fun cooking off the coleman grill, all huddled in the bed together to stay warm.
