I often say I'm the party go-er, not the party planner. So when Brilee comes to me with party ideas all the time and freak out. But this time a little thought came to me that said, these are her talents, allow her to develop these talents. Oh boy. The week this new party idea and talent thought came I was at a low (that cycle goes up and down often -- welcome to life. life with four kids, home all the time). And I was also trying to wrap my head around hosting Thanksgiving Dinner. Me not the "Planner" yet hosting two get-togethers in a row.
So I made Brilee submit a plan to me because I didn't want to get stuck with the little details that get overlooked. Guest list, Games, food, shopping list, decorations and the to-do list to get ready. I was impressed with her work. I took her to the store with me and she shopped for her list and I shopped for mine. She made he r own invitations and I even made her read and do her own recipes. That was hard to sit at the table and not intervene. I found a Sudoku puzzle to keep my brain occupied. She had a successful turn out and loved playing hostess.
She planned a jungle theme. One family that came dressed in jungle costumes and even brought jungle treats to share.
Brilee loved taking command and having things flow her way. As she gets older and has more practice in party planning, we are going to make a great team: She plans, I party!
