Hodge Park

We visited Hodge Park to go exploring. It's a living history museum and many people have said you can go anytime to just walk around. Cool!!

At first the boys were upset that I tricked them; how could I take them to a park without a play ground OR swings!!

We wandered around the deserted streets with the wind hurling all around. (I believe it was up to 26 mph that day).  At the very back of this little town was a church, cemetery and a big patch of grass. I encouraged the kids to sit anywhere they wanted and listen. I did the same on my picnic blanket. Their pondering lasted two minutes and they all joined me on the blanket.  :).

Caelan decided this was a good time to eat. While he ate I tried to prepare a FHE lesson and the kids made the city their own. They found maps and went up and down the streets correlating buildings on the map. I sat and found it magical to see the wind rolling through the naked trees.

As we strolled back to the car we wandered to the herb garden in the back of a house. On the way out I glanced up at a window and felt my stomach drop!! There was a dressed up manikin staring at us from the upper window; scary making!! The kids of course agreed.

It was an unexpected Zion making activity for us. In the quiet of the van and out of the wind I pointed out these good feelings we had among us and why.

I have great kids!
